Are you a slash too?

I am a transformational coach / Artist / Kundalini Yoga teacher. One person with multiple careers and hats on!

Are you a "slash"? With technology giving us the ability to work from anywhere and the nine-to-five grind becoming a thing of the past, more and more people are building careers filled with slashes.

I remember a few years ago when I read Marci Alboher's book One Person/Multiple Careers: A New Model for Work/Life Success I knew in my heart that I'm a slash too. One person with multiple interests and careers.

Back then when I was working in IT as a software team lead that seemed like a faraway dream to be able to be all of that I loved to be.

Also, there were three main challenges

  1. I was only aware of my interest in art - painting - and self developments book nothing more.

  2. I had no idea how I build a career combining the two and do what I love.

  3. I was frustrated with myself that I'm not like everyone else who is so focused on one thing and fulfilled and happy with their single career.

Taking the first step

What I did at the time was to take the very first step by taking my passion for painting into action. I painted one day per week for two years! This helped me hugely to expand my creativity and confidence. By doing what you love constantly and consistently you shift from wanting something to becoming and embodying that.

Fret not where the road will take you. Instead, concentrate on the first step. That's the hardest part and that's what you are responsible for. Once you take that step let everything do what it naturally does and the rest will follow. Do not go with the flow. Be the flow! [Shams Tabriz]

The WHAT will lead to the HOW

The rest came together one after the other and exactly when I was ready to take on the next step!

  • I started to do yoga regularly - 5 times per week for a period of two years. Yoga helped me focus and also release lots of emotional blockages. Through yoga, I was introduced to an amazing community of like-minded people slowly, and gradually I shaped my tribe.

  • I gained enough momentum and courage to quit my corporate job and step into the exhilarating unknown of doing what I love. I hired a transformational coach and together we worked on all the limiting beliefs that stopped me from claiming my power and be who I am.

  • I started my kundalini yoga teacher training and back to college to do a course in transformational coaching.

  • I finished my coaching training and started to take clients to help them find and follow their bliss and create a life they love holistically.

  • I started to teach regular kundalini yoga classes.

  • I run art and healing workshops and online courses that combine all of the above: painting. drawing, meditation, and coaching techniques. The impact and shift I see in people by attending these workshops are heart-warmingly amazing!

So that's why I'm a slash! One person with multiple careers. This is my motivation to carry on doing what I love and creatively share it with others with compassion and love. To be my authentic self and help others to walk this path as well.

Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
